THE Grays Online 2024 Moree Cup meeting and cup-eve charity dinner will be held at Moree racecourse over the Fathers’ Day weekend, with dinner tickets and race-day marquee tickets now available online.
The August 31 dinner, featuring former Australian rugby league international, Polar Bear Ben Hannant, raises funds for Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and is the traditional curtain-raiser for Moree Race Club’s signature Moree Cup meeting the next day.
Moree Race Club president Rob Mather said the cup-eve dinner is again the perfect platform to launch the Moree Cup weekend.
“The dinner is always a great night out, with money raised for an incredibly important organisation,” Mr Mather said.
“The Westpac Rescue Helicopter is a vital service to our district. It is paramount to saving lives and, as a club, we are honoured to be associated with such an important service in a fund-raising capacity.
“Over the years, tens of thousands of dollars has been raised at our charity dinners the night before race-day, and we’re again expecting a big roll-up this year,” he said.
The following day, Fathers’ Day, Moree Race Club hosts the Grays Auctions Moree Cup, won last year by Lou Mary’s Royal Charge.
The meeting heralds the first day of spring, and features the Joblink Plus Chopper Club Marquee.
The Winners are Grinners package, at $70 per person, includes gate and marquee entry, a race-book, canapes and fork food.
Fillies and Colts package for under-18s, includes marquee entry, a meal box and non-alcoholic drink.
Children attending the marquee must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
Out on the track, $300,000 will be distributed across eight races.
The meeting features the $55,000 Grays Online Moree Cup (1400m) and $35,000 Moree Town Plate.
Supporting races include a 950m super maiden handicap worth $50,000, country boosted maiden plate (1400m) worth $35,000 and country boosted class 1 handicap (1200m), also worth $35,000.
Remaining races are each worth $30,000.
“With this sort of prize money, I expect big fields with quality runners,” Mr Mather said.
“Last season, we were the first club to have a $50,000 super maiden race when the concept was rolled out, and it’s great to see the same race on the program again this year.
“I expect full fields, with horses travelling from across New South Wales and Queensland to compete for exceptional prize money and bonuses,” he said.
Nominations close at 11am, Tuesday, August 27, with final fields declared at 9am, Thursday, August 29.
