THE Girls on Fire Australia team will be in Moree on Wednesday, October 30 – and young women are invited to attend the Fire-Up workshop.
Girls on Fire works with schools, fire and emergency services, regional towns, and all kinds of youth-related organisations to introduce young people aged 15 to 19 to fire, emergency and disaster management skills.
The workshop will be held in Moree on Wednesday, October 30 at the RFS Fire Control Centre on Tycannah Street. All young women are welcome, with special encouragement for young women and teens from First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to attend.
The Fire-Up program offers a hands-on, practical experience where young women are inspired to try new things. Led by NSW fire and emergency service personnel and regional community volunteers, it fosters teamwork, confidence, resilience, and leadership.
Participants engage in physical group activities, stepping outside their comfort zones to build essential life skills. Local mentors and activity facilitators provide guidance and inspiration in an experiential learning setting.
The collaborative program aims to foster resilience and empowerment among young women, and is funded by a NSW Government Investing in Women grant to deliver a range of Girls on Fire programs across New South Wales over the next three years.
A Girls on Fire spokesperson said the program is designed to provide a platform for young women, aged 14-19, to explore the realms of fire and emergency services, while simultaneously nurturing a sense of community responsibility and resilience.
“Through engaging workshops and interactive sessions, participants will not only gain valuable insights into emergency management but also be inspired to consider volunteering or pursuing careers in this field,” the spokesperson said.
“The multi-agency collaboration also bridges sectors with stakeholders including fire and emergency service agencies, education, First Nations, local government and youth organisations.
A representative from each group works together as a project team and follows a proven template of program logic, project management and community engagement.”
