NARRABRI Shire councillors have been sworn in at an extraordinary council meeting on Wednesday.
Darrell Tiemens and Brett Dickinson were re-elected unopposed as mayor and deputy mayor.
Cr Tiemens will serve as mayor until September 2026, with Cr Dickinson holding the deputy mayor position until September 2025.
Both leaders retain their roles after initially being elected in September, 2024.
“It is an enormous honour to represent not only this Council but also the incredible people who call this part of our state home,” Cr Tiemens said.
“From the smallest of our villages to our larger towns, I look forward to working with our councillors across our great community.”
Narrabri Shire’s new term councillors were officially declared on October 2.
After a lengthy counting process, distribution of preferences and conclusion of the recount period, the NSW Electoral Commission declared nine councillors for the Shire.
There are six new councillors joining 3 returning councillors to serve together for the next four years. (in alphabetical order): Amanda Brown (new), Brett Dickinson (returning), Navin Erathnage (new), Jocellin Jansson (new), Gregory Lamont (returning), Brett Nolan (new), Joshua Roberts-Garnsey (new), Darrell Tiemens (returning) and Ethan Towns (new.)
Between October and late November, councillors will undergo an intensive induction program to ensure clear knowledge of the workings of Council, understand their role and responsibilities and allow them to hit the ground running.
Interim general manager, Eloise Chaplain, extended her congratulations to the successful candidates.
“Council has been eagerly awaiting results and now they’ve been declared, I look forward to working with our Councillors,” Ms Chaplain said.
“On behalf of Narrabri Shire Council, I congratulate and welcome the newly elected representatives.”
