KIDS across the Moree Plains are encouraged to “try before they buy” when Moree Little Athletics stages a games night on Wednesday, October 23 to launch the 2024-2025 junior athletics’ season.
Little As club president, Kelly James, invites families to come along and try it out before committing to the entire season.
“If kids are not sure, they can come and try it out at our games night but all participants must be registered no later than October 30,” Kelly said.
“Registrations are now open and Active Kids Vouchers can be used towards registration.”
Little As is held every Wednesday afternoon at Ron Harborne Oval, with parents asked to arrive by 5.15pm for a 5.30pm start.
“The training sessions usually run between one and one-and-a-half hours, and that could go slightly longer on competition nights,” Kelly said.
Sessions include athletics training and competition for children aged 5 years to 17 years.
“Our first night will be all about games and introductions, and our training nights will start the following week,” Kelly said.
“There will be plenty of options, including discus, shotput, high jump, long jump, javelin, sprints, with middle and long distance running alternating each week,” Kelly said.
Parents can register their children here: https://www.revolutionise.com.au/moreelac/registration.
All ages are catered for, with Tiny Tots for kids turning four years of age in 2024 as well as all ages from under-six upwards.
“Little As has now joined with Athletics Australia, so there are opportunities for older-aged kids to move forward,” Kelly said.
The Moree Little As season goes through to March, 2025, with the all-important zone carnival at Tamworth scheduled for Saturday, November 23.
Place-getters at Tamworth will advance to the regional championships at Maitland on the weekend of February 1-2, 2024.
“Place-getters from that carnival will progress to the state championships on March 22-23 next year,” Kelly said.
The call-out is also on for volunteers to help manage the afternoon training sessions.
Age group managers are needed as well as people to help with the barbecue and set-up and pack-down routines.
“Our committee is small, and we rely on volunteers to make sure each week runs smoothly and efficiently,” Kelly said.
