MOREE senior cricket will host Narrabri in the first round of the MA Connolly Cup on Sunday at Ron Harborne Oval – a quick back-up after playing in Saturday’s regular town competition.
Club president Grady Sinclair said the Moree team will need to be on-song against Narrabri.
“We are shaping up strong for the weekend and will need to be at our best against a gun Narrabri side, who played in the final of the MA Connolly Cup last season against Tamworth,” Sinclair said.
The Moree team to take on Narrabri includes Tom Vanderstok, Brady Polkinghorne, Matt O’Donnell, Captain Grady Sinclair, Ben Day, Djordjije Cikota, Mac Orr, Callum Cooper, Ben Ryan, Nimesh Karunarathne, Jacky Johnson and veteran campaigner Alfred Newman.
The regular pre-season competition started last Saturday after a hugely successful Rowdo’s 10s day out the previous weekend.
Moree Golf Club was too strong Pally Pub Bulls in round one and The Rowe forfeited against the Mudcrabs.
“Golfies batted first and 40-odd scores from Matt O’Donnell and Alfred Newman helped the team to a handy total,” Sinclair said.
Bulls bowled the Golfies out for a total of 138 and went in to bat full of confidence, but in true park cricket fashion were bowled out for 48 – Golfies took the win by 90 runs.”
On Saturday, Moree Thunder take on Moree Golf Club on the turf and Pally Pub Bulls tackle Maslina Mudcrabs on the Gwydir Street synthetic.
Both games are scheduled to see the first ball bowled at 1pm.
“We encourage anyone keen to see some entertaining cricket on Sunday, to come down for a look and support the boys representing Moree against Narrabri,” Sinclair said.
