IN the lead-up to Christmas, Moree Plains Shire Council invites members of the Mungindi community to enjoy a morning reconnecting, recharging and replenishing.
A Christmas morning tea will be held next Tuesday, December 17, at Flock Café from 10am until midday, New South Wales time, providing an opportunity to check in, catch up, and be inspired to thrive.
The morning tea is a Ricochet Community Recovery event.
Ricochet – Recovery in Communities Creative Healing Enabling Transformation – is a series of events that provide communities across the Moree Plains Shire impacted by compounded disaster.
They offer an opportunity to connect, recover and build capacity and resilience to contend with future events.
Moree Plains Shire Council community recovery officer, Sandy McNaughton, has organised the Mungindi event as an opportunity for the community to come together and reconnect.
“Coming to the end of the year is a perfect time to reflect on our overall wellbeing,” Ms McNaughton said.
“Some of us may be experiencing a sense of emotional and physical exhaustion, especially after an extremely busy harvest period.
“The connection that comes with being in a community can act as a support system for members when they require encouragement and strength,” she said.
Special guest, Letitia Cross, is a co-ordinator with the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program.
She is a mental health advocate, educator, public speaker and professional focused on building rural Australia’s sustainability.
Mrs Cross will provide practical tips on wellness and self-care, as well as tips for nurturing mental, physical, and social well-being.
Ms McNaughton hopes the Mungindi community will come and enjoy a fabulous and inspiring event.
“It all comes back to building resilience, confidence and capacity,” Ms McNaughton said.
“We need our communities to be in the best possible position to face future challenges and to recover from future disasters as well as having an opportunity to celebrate all the positives about our wonderfully resilient communities,” she said.
