Level 2 water restrictions for Moree

Jan 28, 2025

DUE to ongoing demand on the Moree Plains Shire Council water supply, Moree residents are advised that Level 2 water restrictions need to be implemented from 10am, Tuesday, January 28 until further notice.

Most Moree parks and gardens are irrigated using non-potable water. Usage to the small number connected to the town water supply will be restricted.

All residents and commercial users are requested to limit their use of water and implement an odds-and-evens system for outside water use.

Households with odd street numbers are permitted to use sprinklers on odd dates during the water restriction period and households with even street numbers are permitted to use sprinklers on even dates.

Level 2 Restrictions

  • External water sprinklers from 6am to 9am and 7pm to 10pm on an odds-and-evens rotation;
  • Washing of vehicles with buckets and/or trigger hoses only;
  • Washing down of paved surfaces is banned; and
  • Swimming pool filling with handheld hose only; pool covers are mandatory.

The water restrictions will apply until further notice.

The hot, dry weather has seen a dramatic increase in water usage at a time when council has encountered several, unrelated mechanical and electrical interruptions resulting in water reservoirs not being able to maintain optimum water levels.

Acting general manager, Darryl Fitzgerald, reminds residents the importance of water conservation practices to help avoid stricter water restrictions in Moree.

“Reducing water usage during peak evaporation times and being mindful of how water is used for tasks like car-washing or cleaning hard surfaces can definitely have a significant impact,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

Moree residents with queries about the water restrictions are encouraged to contact Council’s 24-hour hotline (02) 6757 3222.
