Please sign: ePetition to change Young Offenders Act gains traction

Feb 5, 2025

MEMBER for Northern Tablelands, Brendan Moylan, encourages residents across the region to get behind a Parliamentary ePetition requesting the NSW Government to change the Young Offenders Act.

The ePetition was presented by Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson, following recent spikes in crimes committed by repeat offenders.

The ePetition is seeking to:

Strengthen bail laws to prevent violent young offenders from re-offending;

Provide increased resources and support for police officers to effectively apprehend and prosecute offenders; and

Review the judicial system to prioritise community safety.

The ePetition requires 20,000 signatures to be scheduled for debate in Parliament and Mr Moylan is urging the community to sign the petition.

“Like everyone across regional New South Wales, I am fed up with the amount of serious crime in our towns,” Mr Moylan said.

“Communities are sick and tired of crimes allegedly being committed by repeat offenders.

“Change is needed to ensure the courts are compelled to impose tough, effective sentences on those who persistently offend.”

“People power will jolt the Minns Labor Government into action and take notice of what is happening in regional NSW.

“If this ePetition gets 20,000 signatures, the Government will be required to debate it.

“I encourage everyone to spend five minutes adding their name to the ePetition,” Mr Moylan said.

The ePetition can be viewed and signed HERE.

The perpetrators of anti-social and criminal behaviour should be brought to justice. We, the law-abiding citizens, cannot be living in fear of being attacked in our homes and possessions stolen by lawless juveniles. Adult crime should be punished as adults.

We should not focus on young offenders only but to parents/guardians or families.

I’m into looking on how to discipline these children but everything should start from home.

Discipline, value formation, training starts from home.

“Train up a child the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it”.

Overindulgence , lack of discipline and no respect to anyone are parts of the missing pieces that will ruin this society.

Justice denied, justice delayed!!! Wake-up please. We want to live in a safe country.

Magistrates MUST be held accountable. Any other industry if you make mistakes or get it wrong there are serious consequences. The general public EXPECT and DESERVE better. It shouldn’t be a Magistrate has to be a victim to FINALLY get community expectations.
There are too many victims from breach of bail whether it’s children offenders, adult crooks or Domestic Violence perpetrators. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

The law must change. How many times must we witness young teens who are out on bail for committing the same type of crimes repeat those crimes? How many people must lose their Motor Vehicles? Lives are being put in danger, kids are doing stupid dangerous stuff that will eventually get someone killed. Make a change! Do what is right for these kids and everyone who has been a victim of their actions.

Where are these offender’s parents. Maybe they should be held accountable as well as the offenders.
