TRANSPORT for NSW has scheduled a traffic switch on the Newell Highway south of Edgeroi from Friday, March 7.
Work is continuing on the Newell Highway heavy duty pavement upgrade project between Narrabri and Moree to improve safety and travel reliability for all motorists.
Work is continuing on a 5.7 kilometre section of the Newell Highway south of Edgeroi about 18 kilometres north of Narrabri.
Transport for NSW is preparing to switch traffic onto a new section of pavement as part of the construction program.
To prepare for the traffic switch, work will include relocating safety barriers, line marking, sealing and installing signage.
Staff be working from 7am to 6pm weekdays and weekends in preparation for the traffic switch.
Work will commence on Friday, March7 and is expected to take around two weeks to complete, weather permitting.
This means work may be required on consecutive weekends.
Motorists may notice noise from machinery and equipment, traffic control, signage, and reduced
speed limits in place.
There will be temporary traffic changes to ensure the work zone is safe. These include single lane closures while the barriers are relocated; reduced speed limit to 40 kmh during work hours; and intermittent stopping.
Motorists are asked to please keep to speed limits and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs.
Motorists should continue to allow up to 15 minutes of additional travel time when travelling between Narrabri and Moree.

The Australian and NSW Governments are jointly funding the $261.17 million Newell Highway heavy duty pavement upgrades between Narrabri and Moree.
These upgrades will improve safety for motorists and reduce future maintenance requirements and costs.
The HDPU project includes upgrading four priority sections along the Newell Highway with over 20 kilometres of new road pavement, intersection improvements, widening of road shoulders and the provision of five additional overtaking lanes.
