Mar 30, 2025

THE Bureau of Meteorology advises minor flooding is likely Pallamallawa and Yarraman Bridge Sunday evening as residents in Wee Waa are advised to prepare to be isolated.

Moderate to heavy rainfall has been recorded across parts of the Gwydir River catchment, which is causing river level rises.

A minor flood peak has been observed at Gravesend Sunday morning and river levels have now fallen below the minor flood level.

This peak is likely to cause minor flooding at Pallamallawa and Yarraman Bridge from Sunday evening as it travels downstream.

Further rainfall is forecast later this week which may cause renewed river level rises.

This situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required.

Gwydir River downstream of Copeton Dam:

Minor flooding may occur along the Gwydir River downstream of Copeton Dam.

The NSW SES is continuing to respond to the impacts of heavy rain and damaging winds across the state, with riverine rises and flash flooding occurring in northern, western and mid-north coast regions.

Volunteers have responded to more than 580 incidents, including 16 flood rescues, across New South Wales as a result of heavy rain and wind gusts in excess of 80kph.

A number of warnings have been issued for minor to moderate flooding on several catchments, and a number of communities could become isolated due to flooding.

In Narrabri, flash flooding impacted 30 properties on Saturday afternoon and an evacuation centre was opened.

Overnight, the Peel River in Tamworth reached moderate flood levels and NSW SES members completed two flood rescues for vehicles in floodwaters.

All persons were safe, and the flooding has receded.

NSW SES assistant commissioner Sean Kearns said renewed riverine flooding was possible if more rainfall was forecast across the state.

“We know catchments are already wet across many areas, particularly in the north-east of the state, and we are monitoring forecast rain for the rest of this week,” he said.

“I encourage the community to monitor the Bureau of Meteorology and the Hazards Near Me app for the latest warnings and information.”

He said riverine rises would also continue in Western NSW as water from Queensland continued to flow downstream.

“A number of communities in Western NSW could be isolated for some time, including Wanaaring and Wee Waa,” he said.

At Wee Waa, NSW SES advises residents to prepare to isolate and watch and act, due to predictions the Namoi River will reach around 6.3m.

Residents are advised to monitor the situation and prepare to be isolated by floodwater and to consider the effects isolation will have on family, work, and educational commitments.

Residents may be trapped without power, water, and other essential services and it may be too dangerous for NSW SES undertake rescue operations.

The Bureau of Meteorology advises the Namoi River at Wee Waa (Glencoe) is currently 5.89m and rising, above the 5.3m minor flood level.

The Namoi River at Wee Waa (Glencoe) is likely to reach around 6.3m Sunday afternoon, with minor flooding. Further rises are possible.

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by flooding:

Trindall Lane;

Wee Waa to Culgoora Road;

Kamilaroi Highway at Glencoe Channel; and

Vera’s Leap Road and Culgoora Road at Wee Waa lagoon.
