POLICE have charged two men from Moree over alleged use of knives in a public place in the Sydney CBD on Easter Sunday.
Just after 2.30pm Sunday, officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command and Police Transport Command were called to George Street, Haymarket, following reports that two men allegedly produced a knife in the public place.
Police were told a delivery rider was threatened by two men – both armed with knives – on Liverpool Street, before the two men left the scene towards Haymarket area.
There were no injuries reported due to the incident.
Following inquiries, police arrested two men – aged 19 and 18 – on George Street, Haymarket.
Police also seized two knives for a forensic examination.
They were both taken to Day Street Police Station where they were charged with use knife in public place – cause person to fear for safety.
The men were refused bail.
However, they appeared at Parramatta Bail Court on Easter Monday and were granted bail.
In an unrelated incident, a man has been charged following multiple alleged aggravated break-and-enter incidents in Armidale last week.
At about 8.45pm on Thursday, April 17, officers attached to New England Police District were called to a home on Butler Lane, Armidale, with reports of a home invasion.
Police arrived and were told by the occupant – a man in his 70s – that an unknown man had entered the property before accessing a shed, leaving behind a backpack and other items.
At about 8.50pm the same day, police were called to another home in Armidale – on Markham Street – with reports of an attempted home invasion.
Officers arrived and were told by the occupant – a man in his 30s – that the occupant’s bins had allegedly been searched, fence broken and flyscreen removed from a window.
At about 10.10pm the same day, officers were called to a third home in Armidale – on West Avenue – with reports of a break-and-enter, and were told by the occupant – a woman in her 20s – that an unknown person was still on the premises.
Police arrived shortly after to find a 35-year-old man allegedly searching through handbags and other items inside the home, after he allegedly forced entry through a window at the rear of the home.
Officers arrested the man and took him to Armidale Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of aggravated break-and-enter with intent – knowing person there.
He was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Local Court on Friday, April 18, where he was granted conditional bail to appear before Armidale Local Court tomorrow, Wednesday, April 23.
Meanwhile, Police are appealing for public assistance as they investigate the theft of a firearm from a property in the state’s central-west.
Between 7pm on Wednesday, April 16 and 1pm on Saturday, April 19, officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District commenced an investigation, following reports that a .223 calibre Remington rifle had been stolen from a property on Creenaunes Lane, Baradine.
Police were told the home was broken into and the rifle was stolen from a vehicle on the property.
The owner was given a firearms licence notice of suspension and seized the remaining firearms.
