TWELVE months ago, Arthur Pollock won the 1200m class 3 handicap at Mallawa on tough old gelding Pahang for Dubbo trainer Connie Greig – the first leg of a winning double for the Scone jockey.
This year, he again teamed up with Pahang and Greig to win the 1400m B&W Rural Titan Ag Mallawa Cup, nudging out stablemate Blackhill Kitty.
And in an encore performance, Pollock also rode a winning double at the second leg of bush racing’s Golden Triangle when Ray Hartley’s Point to Prove did just that in the 1400m Aircair Aviation Class B Handicap.
Pahang ($9), an eight-year-old gelding with a few miles in his legs, made it win number 15 on Saturday when holding off stablemate Blackhill Kitty ($6), ridden by Todd Bailey, to score by three-parts of a length.

Pahang, with Arthur Pollock on board, beats stablemate Blackhill Kitty and Todd Bailey in the B&W Rural Titan Ag Mallawa Cup on Saturday.
Kelly Smith’s 2023 Talmoi Cup winner, nine-year-old Ringside ($26), led for Tamsin Gough and held down third, a long-neck away.
“He jumped well and we were able to get just behind the main pack – they were running along at a good tempo,” Pollock said.
“We kicked up and got on the back of Jakat, who I thought was the one to beat, and at the top of the straight my horse let down really well.
“It’s great to ride another winner for Connie, and I hope they can keep coming,” he said.
Pahang has been perfectly placed by Greig, who won the Moree Bracelet two weeks ago with I’m Scarlett.
“That was win 15 for him. He only had 66.5kg and was coming back from a few professional runs – I’m very happy for the connections,” Pollock said.
Pollock has only been riding the New South Wales picnic circuit for 12 months, and announced his arrival on the Golden Triangle last year when winning the Boolooroo Cup at Moree on Peak Road for Peter Sinclair – Pollock’s first day on the job.

The 20-year-old jockey emigrated to Australia from England about 15 years ago with parents Ben and Nikki, who began training at Scone after a stint in South Australia.
Pollock rode a double at Mungery late last year, and repeated the feat at Mallawa on Saturday when Point to Prove outgunned its rivals in the 1400m class B handicap.
Point to Prove ($2.20fav) led throughout to beat Justin Drake’s Unbelievable Helsy ($2.60) by nearly two-and-a-half lengths, with Krissie Simpkins’ Laser Guided Girl ($8) a length away third.
“He’s a nice, tough horse – jumped across, led, and gave me a kick,” Pollock said.
“He’s got a high-cruising speed and if he can stick to these dirt tracks, he can keep winning.”
