MOREE Boars ladies tackle team remain unbeaten in the 2025 Group 4 rugby league competition after running in 11 tries against Wee Waa Panthers at Boughton Oval on Sunday.
But while the 54-4 scoreline underpins the strength of the Moree outfit, Wee Waa Panthers, to their credit, played a full 50 minutes with a skeleton crew.
Moree coach Chris Swan praised Wee Waa for running on with only 11 players against a strong, fully-entrenched Moree squad.
“There were some big hits and Wee Waa had a big side, but if they had more numbers, it would’ve been much better,” Swan said.
“It’s good they’re keeping the game rolling and keeping the teams in the competition – and great that they still came and played. Congratulations to them,” he said.
Moree captain Kaya Williams crossed for three tries while individual tries went to Ailyn Seeto, Maddy Martin, Alina Swan, Gabby Suckling, Tileah McGrady, Daharra Wightman, Jorja Lawson and Aleah Peckham, who also kicked two goals.
Tara Newman and Tileah McGrady kicked one goal each.
Swan said all players excelled, with winger Jorja Lawson a stand-out.
“Jorja had a blinder – I’d give her best-and-fairest today,” Swan said.
“She was full of energy and scored a good try.”
Ailyn Seeto, the tiny 18-year-old who scored a try late in the second half, also played well.
“She puts her body on the line and is not scared to get in and tackle and get in front of them,” Swan said.
“She’s got a bit of speed behind her, too, so she’s good at bringing the ball back. She’s only learning, but picking it up every week.”
Moree ladies opened the season with a 28-4 win against Dungowan, then clung to a 10-8 win against Kootingal.
After beating Wee Waa 62-nil at Boughton Oval in early May they went to the Magic Round at Tamworth’s Scully Park two weeks later and beat Dungowan, 24-16.
They were at it again two weeks ago, beating North Tamworth 30-6, before Sunday’s big win against a gallant Wee Waa outfit.
Swan said the team, sponsored by Tait Toyota Moree, will improve further as the season rolls on.
“Even though we’re winning, we can still push ourselves and try and get better every week,” Swan said.
“We’ve got a lot of new players and the core squad is still going strong, holding everything together.”
Swan, who played for 10 years in the Newcastle A-grade competition, said many teams in the ladies tackle comp are still finding their collective feet.
“When the other teams start strengthening up and become a bit more competitive, the football will be a lot better, too – it’s just a matter of the other teams getting the numbers,” Swan said.
Moree ladies tackle next week have the bye, and will return to Boughton Oval on Sunday, June 29 to play Gunnedah.
