Brendan Moylan’s Weekly Report

Sep 27, 2025

THE Armidale branch of the Country Women’s Association has launched a $5000 scholarship (in perpetuity) for a female medical student from regional, remote or rural New South Wales to put towards their studies at the University of New England.

The student is to study locally at UNE and the intention of working in the region as a doctor.

Well done to the Armidale CWA and UNE for putting this scholarship opportunity together.

It is so important for healthcare within the region to grow our own and hopefully it will benefit the Northern Tablelands community long-term.

Applications are open at Country Women’s Association of NSW (Armidale Branch) Medical Scholarship – University of New England.

Upgrades to Bingara Sporting Club

A sum of $18,000 was delivered to the Bingara Sporting Club to have wheelchair access to the green improved, more seating and shade, and repairs to the green’s ditch head.

The funding came from the Community Building Partnership program and will ensure the club’s disabled and elderly members can access the green and there will be somewhere for both spectators and bowls participants to sit.

The Bingara Sporting Club has around 200 members and is home to bowls, golf and tennis.

The grounds are maintained by volunteers who are very proud of the fantastic facilities there.

These clubs and their volunteers are the backbone of our communities, so it was fantastic to secure this funding for the Bingara Sporting Club.

Walcha Skate Park renewal

Upgrades to the Walcha Skate Park were unveiled on Thursday afternoon.

The project was aided by $433,482 NSW Government funding.

A half basketball court, new pathway, extension and safety modifications to the skate park, fencing and garden beds were added. It looks fantastic and I am sure it will be a popular place for the local kids.
