POLICE are reappealing for assistance from the public as inquires continue into the discovery of a body in a burnt-out vehicle near Brewarrina last month.
Emergency services were called to the Kamilaroi Highway, Brewarrina, 100km east of Bourke, at about 5.15am on Sunday, September 28, when an SUV was found alight.
A body was found inside the vehicle once the fire had been extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW.
A crime scene was established and an investigation commenced under Strike Force Mayville, comprising of detectives from Central North Police District and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Following inquiries, on Thursday October 16, police attached to Central North Police District executed two crime scene warrants at separate premises located within Barwon Four Reserve Brewarrina and seized a number of items which will be subject to further examination.
Central North PD crime manager, detective inspector Andrew Barnes, said due to the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body, police are treating the death as suspicious.
“We have identified the deceased person and notified their next-of-kin, but we are appealing to the public to come forward if they have information which could be relevant to this investigation,” Det Insp Barnes said.
