Tycannah Rest Area

Highway rest areas to undergo $12 million refurbs

Nov 6, 2025

MEMBER for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has welcomed news important rest areas outside of Moree will receive $12 million in upgrades.

Tycannah rest areas, about 17 kilometres south of Moree on the Newell Highway, will be revamped to benefit all drivers, including heavy vehicles.

Mr Moylan said the improvements to the rest areas on both sides of the highway will be well-received by all motorists.

“The Newell Highway is the longest highway in NSW and sees trucks, tourists, and other motorists all using the route,” he said.

“As part of these works, the pavement will be extended to accommodate for more long vehicles, longer deceleration lanes which will improve safety for vehicles exiting the highway.

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan said the upgrades will be a huge benefit for both heavy vehicle and light vehicle users.

“There will also be solar lighting, flushable toilets, shelters and flushing toilets installed, better equipment the rest areas for all road users.

“These works are expected to take six months and the rest areas will be closed during that time.

“Please take care while travelling through the area and look out for workers and vehicles at the site.”

The works will be conducted from 7am until 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am until 1pm on Saturdays.

The project is jointly funded by the NSW and Australian Governments.
