Armidale: Community comes together for a magical Christmas season

Nov 9, 2025

THE festive season will shine brightly across the region as the community comes together to celebrate Christmas in the Mall in Armidale and the Guyra Rotary Christmas Carnival in Guyra.

Christmas in the Mall will take place in Beardy Street on Thursday, December 4 from 4.30pm to 8.30pm, followed by the Guyra Rotary Christmas Carnival on Bradley Street on Friday, December 5 from 4pm to 8pm.

The much-anticipated events are a celebration of community spirit, bringing people together to enjoy the magic of the season while supporting local businesses, market stalls and performers.

From families and friends to visitors and neighbours, everyone is invited to share in the joy of Christmas.

Armidale Regional Council mayor Sam Coupland said the events are a reflection of the strong community connections that define our region.

“Christmas is a time to come together, to celebrate what makes our towns special, and to support one another,” Cr Coupland said.

“These events are created by and for the community, and they’re a wonderful way to kick off the festive season with joy, laughter and local pride.”

In Armidale, the evening will feature a visit from Santa Claus at 6pm, festive train ride aboard the Jingle Express, roving magician, live stage performances, and a variety of kids’ activities.

Market and food stalls will offer plenty to eat and explore, and the Armidale Courthouse will be transformed with an interactive gingerbread-themed lighting display.

In Guyra, the Christmas Carnival will bring the main street to life with a visit from Santa, the Jingle Express, live magician, stage entertainment, children’s activities, and a vibrant mix of market and food stalls.

The event is proudly delivered in partnership with Guyra Rotary, continuing a longstanding collaboration that brings the community together each year.

“These celebrations are about more than just lights and entertainment,” Cr Coupland said.

“They’re about connection, tradition, and creating memories that last well beyond the holiday season.

“I encourage everyone to come along, bring your family and friends, and enjoy everything our community has to offer.”

The Christmas tree lighting at Christmas in the Mall will take place at 7.30pm, with the Guyra Christmas Carnival beginning at 6.30pm.
