Moree senior cricket competition bowling along with extra games and new players

Nov 20, 2025

MOREE Golf Club is enjoying a two-point lead on the Moree and District Cricket Association’s men’s senior summer cricket competition ladder after five rounds, with a couple of wash-outs affecting standings.

After the fifth round was held last Saturday at Ron Harborne Oval, Golf Club sits on 16 points, two clear of Moree Thunder, with Yarraman Yabbies third on six points.

Pally Bulls are next with four points, however the Bulls and Golf Club suffered a washout in Round 5 and all teams were washed out in the opening round.

Association president, Grady Sinclair, said the new season has started exceptionally well despite the washouts.

“Cricket has been great so far this year – there’s a real change in energy at Ron Harborne Oval,” Sinclair said.

“This year we have one team with all players under 20 years of age – graduates from Saturday morning junior cricket – and that alone is great for the game in Moree.

“Josh Rigby is running the side, and is doing a great job from what I’ve seen so far – they’re all so keen,” he said.

Sinclair said the 30-over competition was steamrolling along, with Moree Golf Club looking the team to beat this early in the season.

“The Golfies and Thunder are looking the most competitive teams in the competition so far,” Sinclair said.

“They played each other last weekend and it was a cracking game to watch – Golfies finished on top and are still undefeated this season.”

The Moree cricket season, launched earlier this year with the Domino’s Moree T20 Bash under lights, will showcase round two of the bash in the new year.

“Early next year we’ll start our T20 draft competition on Friday nights, alongside our regular T20 competition on Saturday afternoons,” Sinclair said.

“We are still chasing a fourth major sponsor for our T20 draft competition, so if any businesses are willing to put up their hand or would like to know the costs involved, please contact me on 0404 505618,” he said.

The Moree club last Friday evening held a friendly match under lights, just to keep players ticking over as the Christmas-New Year break approaches.

“The Friday night match was really successful, with the focus being to have an extra hit of cricket,” Sinclair said.

“Games like this also allows a few guys to spend a bit of time in the middle, who usually wouldn’t on Saturdays.

“Everyone enjoyed the game and we’ll definitely do it again in the future,” Sinclair said.

Moree is also one from one in the MA Connolly Cup and head to Gunnedah on Sunday for Round 3 of the competition.

“We’ve been in a tough spot since losing a lot of the older players, but we’ve got a really good group of guys now,” Sinclair said.

“I think we’re really starting to gel and I’m confident we’ll give it to Gunnedah on Sunday.”
