Sport stars honoured at Tamworth awards ceremony

FIFTEEN-year-old Olivia Earl has been named Sports Star of the Year at the 2025 Tamworth Regional Sports Awards, held last night at West Tamworth League Club.

She was also named Junior Sports Star of the Year for her incredible list of feats on the athletics field over the past year, which includes a string of gold medals and records.

Her medal tally includes gold in shot put and discus at the 2024 Australian All School Championships in Brisbane and gold in shot put, discus and javelin at the 2025 NSW State Junior Championships in Sydney.

Olivia also won gold in shot put and discus, as well as a NSW state record in shot put, at the 2025 NSW State All School Championships in Sydney and gold and Virtus world records in shot put, discus and javelin at the 2025 Virtus World Athletics Championships in Brisbane.

Olivia was selected for the Northern Inland Academy of Sport target and talent program in 2024-2025 and her passion for athletics extends far beyond her training regime.

As well as 10 training sessions a week before and after school, on the track and in the gym, Olivia loves to give back to the community.

She helps younger children and disabled athletes develop their throwing skills and build their passion for athletics.

Following her achievements at the 2025 Virtus World Athletics Championships, Olivia qualified to represent Australia at the 2026 Virtus World Athletics Championships in Thailand.

She also qualified for the 2027 Virtus World Athletics Championships in Egypt.

Meanwhile, Kobe Hunt was named Senior Sports Star of the Year after a stellar year in the boxing ring.

Kobe’s accolades in the past 12 months are huge.

They include a gold medal at the Australian Boxing League Elite Open National Championships and a silver medal at the International Boxing Association Elite Men’s Oceania Boxing Championships, both in the 51-kilogram division.

Other Tamworth Regional Sports Awards winners include Australian and Indigenous Australian representative Oztag player Jordan Graf, who won the Cara Hickson Award for Special Achievement.

Tamworth 13s representative team coach Kerry Deaton, a cornerstone of netball in Tamworth for more than 25 years, was named Coach of the Year.
