MOREE Plains Shire Council advises that due to essential water main replacement work on the Edward Street distribution main, a 48-hour, Level 5 water restriction for Moree residents will be in place from 11pm Tuesday, January 27 to 11pm Thursday, January 29, 2026.
Council director of infrastructure, Michael Malone, said to enable a renewal of the water main, Council will replace a section of the main located at the Edward Street bridge.
“These works will include constructing two new connections required for the installation of the replacement pipe,” Mr Malone said.
“These restrictions are necessary to preserve water in the town reservoirs for essential domestic and firefighting purposes, while the distribution main is isolated to cut in the connections of the new replacement main.”
Level 5 Restrictions for Moree – Only essential household water usage is permitted
BANNED: External watering of lawns and gardens;
BANNED: Washing of Vehicles and housing of paved surfaces; and
BANNED: Filling of swimming pools, fountains and ponds.
Showers kept to less than four minutes and essential items only for clothes washing.
Moree Plains Shire Council encourages residents to water lawns and gardens this long weekend in anticipation of the upcoming two days of water restrictions.
Council acknowledges some parks are irrigated using bore water and treated effluent.
Residents may still see watering occurring in these areas. However, this irrigation does not use the town’s potable water supply.
