A body has been located following a search for a man missing near Gunnedah.
At about 7.30am today, Thursday, January, 29, the body of a man was located in the Namoi River.
While yet to be formally identified the body is believed to be that of a man reported missing on Tuesday.
At about 7.35pm on Tuesday, emergency services were called to the Namoi River off Old Blue Vale Road, Gunnedah, following reports a swimmer had failed to resurface.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District arrived and were told a 63-year-old man had been swimming in the river when he began to struggle before disappearing in the water.
Local police – with assistance from the Dog Squad, NSW Ambulance, SES, VRA Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service – commenced a search of the river and nearby properties.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
In an unrelated incident, a woman has died in hospital following a crash last week at Whiteman Creek, about 21km north-west of Grafton.
At about 2.45pm on Wednesday, January 21, emergency services were called to Clarence Way, following reports of a crash.
On arrival, officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Police District located a Nissan Navara that had crashed into a tree.
The driver – a 71-year-old woman – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being flown to Gold Coast Hospital in a critical condition.
Police have since been notified that the woman died in hospital on Tuesday.
Inquiries into the crash are continuing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
