Widespread rain expected over the coming days

Feb 12, 2026

THERE are multiple weather apps and long-range forecasting channels across the internet and social media, and they’re all saying pretty much the same thing at the moment – rain, and plenty of it, will fall across south-eastern Queensland and much of northern New South Wales over the next four days.

Predictions for the Moree district range anywhere from 50mm to 80mm, with slightly heavier falls likely around the Goondiwindi, St George and Darling Downs districts.

Heavy rain in Ipswich and Brisbane is expected to start today, with similar falls likely in the Northern Rivers regions of New South Wales.

Up to 70mm of rain is forecast to fall across much of north-western New South Wales and the New England area over the weekend, with border regions Goondiwindi and Mungindi expecting similar falls.

Angus Hines, from the Bureau of Meteorology said heavy rain could lead to flooding in south-east Queensland in the coming days.

“Our water vapour imagery is showing where there’s lots of moisture in the atmosphere and there has been moisture gradually moving eastwards,” Hines said.

He said high moisture was centred over central Australia, drifting to the east, and expected to reach south-east Queensland late today.

“This is providing the fuel that will turn into rainfall,” Hines said.

“At the same time that’s happening, we also have this change moving northwards up the New South Wales coast, and that is going to have a significant impact on the wind flow Friday.”

Hines’ full forecast, issued at 4.10pm Thursday, can be viewed on the right-hand side of Moree Online News homepage. BoM weather videos are updated daily.
