Warialda: Man charged with drug, firearm offences

A man will face court, charged with drug and firearm offences following a search yesterday at a residence in Warialda.

Officers attached to New England Police District conducted a firearms prohibition order compliance search at an address on Long Street, Warialda, at about 2pm on Thursday.

During the search, officers allegedly found a 30-year-old man inside the home with a quantity of methylamphetamine on him.

Police say he was attempting to hide inside a freezer when they entered.

Officers also allegedly located and seized an amount of prohibited drugs including methylamphetamine, cocaine, buprenorphine and cannabis, a sawn-off firearm and stock end, cash and a mobile phone.

The man was arrested and taken to Moree Police Station where he was charged with possess prohibited drug; acquire etc firearm – subject to prohibition order; possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority; acquire etc ammunition subject to prohibition order; possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority; supply prohibited drug greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity; recklessly deal with proceeds of crime greater than $5000; and reach of bail.

He was refused bail to face Bail Division Court 5 today.
