Tayla Frahm heading back to Mungindi to take a stand against blood cancer

Mar 8, 2026

TAYLA Frahm will soon pull out the razor, clippers and scissors to raise much-needed funds for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

Tayla grew up in Mungindi and Moree and now lives at the Gold Coast, where she’s a fly-in-fly-out dump truck operator at a coal mine near Dysart in central Queensland’s Isaac region.

The 24-year-old works a seven days on, seven days off roster, and will use her scheduled time off next month to shave her locks at Mungindi on April 4 – Easter Saturday.

“I’ve always said I wanted to shave my head and lately maintaining my hair has been difficult,” Tayla grinned.

“I thought, now is the time, and why not do it for a good cause and raise money for those struggling with leukaemia.”

Tayla will also donate her locks to help make hairpieces for leukaemia sufferers.

“I hope that by donating my hair to make wigs helps sufferers feel confident and beautiful while going through treatment,” she said.

Tayla says the urge to shave her head goes back to childhood.

“When I was eight years old I asked my mum, Helen, to shave my head so I could look like my dad, Marty,” she laughed.

Helen, a qualified hairdresser, cut Tayla’s hair as short as possible but couldn’t take the next step and give her daughter the Telly Savalas look.

“My whole family is very supportive, and helped me get the confidence to decide to do it all these years later,” Tayla said.

Tayla will strap on the barber’s bib on Easter Saturday at her grandmother’s home in Mungindi.

“My granny and pop moved into that home in the 1950s and raised nine kids there, including my mum,” Talya smiled.

“We have so many cousins and we have spent so much of our lives there.

“It’s our second home, a very special place to me and many others, and the perfect spot to do the shave.

“There will be quite a lot of us there, so I’m going to let everyone have a go.

“My five-year-old cousin, Eilah, wants to do it also, which I think is so cute.

“My partner Paris and mum Helen are both very talented hairdressers, so they’ll be in charge,” Tayla said.

Every dollar raised by the World’s Greatest Shave helps fund life-changing blood cancer care, support and research and is the flagship fundraising campaign for the Leukaemia Foundation.

The campaign helps fund a suite of wraparound health services for blood cancer patients and their families, as well as groundbreaking research projects.

“I decided to do this about a month ago, and not long after that I made some social media posts about it,” Tayla said.

“I’ve always known about the World’s Greatest Shave, and thought it would be the perfect foundation to raise money for a very worthwhile cause while doing something I’ve always wanted to do,” she said.
