It’s Showtime!

Moree Show junior-novice rodeo entries are now open

Mar 27, 2026

ENTRIES are now open for the Moree Show rodeo, an ABCRA-affiliated event scheduled to jump from the chutes at 6pm, Friday, April 10.

This year’s edition, again brought to Moree by Gill Bros Rodeo, heralds a new format, with junior riders and rising stars being called to the ring.

Moree Show Society president, Brendan Munn, said the new-look, junior-novice rodeo is expected to draw good entries.

“The rodeo will have a slightly different format this year,” Mr Munn said.

“A junior-novice rodeo will be held, and we’ve purchased two buckles – one for champion novice saddle bronc, and one for champion novice bull ride,” he said.

Novice saddle bronc and novice bull ride each offer $1000 prize money, with junior bull ride for ages 14 to under-18 worth $500.

The mini bull ride for ages 11 to under-14 is worth $200 and a mini bull ride for ages eight to under-11 offers $150.

Entries for all rodeo events open March 24.

The rodeo this year is tipped to be one of the best, and spectators will have a birds-eye view when the chutes fly back at 6pm in the campdraft arena, near the northern end of Moree showground.

Some of the best young cowboys in Australia will battle it out with the broncs and bulls.

ABCRA is Australia’s largest non-profit equine sporting organisation, formed in 1946 for the purpose of co-ordinating and assisting affiliated committees conduct rodeo, campdraft, challenge, sorting and penning events.

Gill Bros Rodeo is a seventh generation family business established by Stanley and Violet Gill in the late 1800s – around the same time Moree hosted its inaugural show – and the rodeo has been a Friday night staple at the two-day Moree Show for decades.

The 2026 Moree Show also features plenty of entertainment across two big days, including Jetpack Entertainment, Marlene Brewer and her border collie Hudson, Noah’s Thoroughbred Racing Pigs and John and Tina Mostyn’s Reptile Awareness Display.

The Jetpack crew is a highly skilled stunt team, operating water-powered jetpacks, jet boards, stunt jet skis and Jetsurfs, or motorised surfboards.

Marlene and Hudson are best known for their appearances on season three of Muster Dogs and will feature at the Moree Show on Saturday, April 11.

John and Tina Mostyn are back after wowing the crowds at last year’s Moree Show with their venomous snake displays and Noah’s racing pigs will compete in four big, fun-filled events.
