A man has been charged with firearm offences near Collarenebri.
At about 10am yesterday, Tuesday, March 31, Central North Police District investigators executed search warrants at properties on Gundabloui Road and the Gwydir Highway near Collarenebri – 120 kilometres west of Moree – with assistance from tactical police, the Dog Unit and Police Rescue.
At the Gundabloui Road address, police seized a home-made firearm, and various types of ammunition.
Officers arrested a 32-year-old man at the scene.
He was taken to Walgett Police Station and charged with possess unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm, possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority and not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm.
The man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division – Court 4 today, Wednesday, April 1.
In an unrelated incident, also in the western districts, two people will face court as an investigation into prohibited drug supply continues.
Officers attached to Central North Police District established Strike Force Gerlach in January, 2026 to investigate the ongoing supply of prohibited drugs in Nyngan.
Following inquiries, at about 7.30am on Monday, police executed a search warrant at a home on Pangee Street, Nyngan, where they arrested a 27-year-old man and 31-year old man.
At about 10.45am the same day, police executed a search warrant at a home on Oxley Street, Nyngan.
During the search, police allegedly located and seized several electronic devices which will be forensically examined.
Both men were taken to Nyngan Police Station.
The 27-year-old was charged with 15 offences including nine counts of supply prohibited drug less than or equal to small quantity; three counts of supply prohibited drug greater than small and less than or equal to indictable quantity; supply prohibited drug greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity; supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis; and organises/conducts/assists drug premises.
The 31-year-old was charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic).
Both men were granted conditional bail to face Nyngan Local Court on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
