Tamworth: 43-year-old man charged with alleged pursuit and drug offences

OXLEY detectives have charged a man after an investigation into drug supply in Tamworth.

Strike Force Bogangate II was established by Oxley Police District to investigate the ongoing supply of prohibited drugs in the Tamworth area.

On May 22, officers from Oxley Highway Patrol attempted to stop a BMW sedan on Jewry Street, Taminda.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued to Duri-Dungowan Road, Timbumburi, near the intersection of the New England Highway, when the BMW came to a stop and police arrested a 43-year-old man.

Following the arrest, the vehicle was searched with police allegedly locating and seizing 68g of methylamphetamine and $7445 cash.

The man was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly (second offence); drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (second offence); drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (second offence)’ supply prohibited drug more than indictable quantity and less than commercial quantity; possess/attempt to prescribed restricted substance; recklessly deal with proceeds of crime more than $5000; and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.

Police will allege in court the man was involved in ongoing drug supply in the Tamworth area.

He was refused bail and appeared at Bail Division Court 5 on May 23 where he was formally refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court on August 3.

Following further inquiries, on Wednesday this week, detectives from Oxley Police District attended Newcastle Police Station where the man was arrested and charged with three counts of supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis and supply prohibited drug more than or equal to commercial quantity.

He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 2 today where he was formally refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court on August 12.

Investigations under Strike Force Bogangate II are continuing.
