In Loving Memory of Dr John Egan
6/12/1929-12/6/2026
Dr John Egan moved to Moree in 1957 and joined Dr John Campion in general practice.
Over the next 20 years, he worked or was on call around the clock, caring for patients from his surgery in Heber Street, his home surgery in Frome Street, and during hospital rounds. He also delivered more than 2000 babies in Moree.
Dr Egan worked closely with the Daughters of Charity at the Mission and at Toomelah to help establish much-needed medical services.
With his wife Rhona, he raised nine children and was closely involved with St Philomena’s School. The family made lifelong friends in Moree and were active in the community.
John and Rhona also bought a property on the Garah Road, where John enjoyed learning about farming.
In 1977, the family returned to Sydney to be closer to relatives, but John always spoke fondly of his years in Moree and the community in which he had been deeply involved.
Dr Egan passed away on 12 June 2026 after a brief illness. He was 96.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, 2 July 2026, at Sacred Heart Church, Mosman.
The funeral will be livestreamed at:
