Bill Poulos and Dipper’s Home Timber and Hardware paint specialist David Smith select the right colours for a major renovation project.
WHEN Bill and Cindy Poulos bought a property in Moree earlier this year, they knew their first port of call for all home renovation needs would be award-winning store, Dipper’s Home Timber and Hardware.
When they began renovating the residence – a three-bedroom bungalow – they knew they could confidently source building materials and painting supplies from Dipper’s.
“Ninety-nine per cent of all materials we needed for our building and painting projects were available at Dipper’s – there was no need to go out of town or shop online,” Bill said.
All timber and plasterboard – and there was plenty of it – was supplied by Dipper’s, as well as the screws, nails, glue and cornice cement to hold it all together.
“Everything was available and in stock. Nothing had to be ordered, meaning there was no downtime on our part,” Bill said.
“Renovating is a funny game – this is our second crack at it. There is really no set work schedule, despite the best-laid plans. One day you’re on a paint brush, the next day it’s a hammer.
“This means certain materials are needed at the drop of a hat, and all the materials we needed were available at Dipper’s,” Bill said.
“Everything for gyprocking, including plasterboard sheets, cornice cement, topping compounds, and stud adhesive and screws were in stock, and all the timber we needed was always on hand.”
Bill and Cindy also sourced all painting supplies from Dipper’s, as well as the brushes and rollers to get it on the walls and ceilings.
“Dipper’s has an extensive paint department, and offers all the top brands like Wattyl, Dulux, Berger and Accent – all in trade quantities or smaller amounts for the finicky jobs,” Bill said.
“Sourcing everything we needed from Dipper’s made life so much easier, and we’re getting the job done so much quicker,” Bill said.
Store owner Bec Diprose and her big team at Dipper’s are committed to delivering an unmatched level of customer service and expertise.
Their vast range of timber, hardware and building materials also comes with friendly, personal service.
Experienced staff members are equipped with in-depth knowledge, and can offer advice on projects inside and outside the home.
Dipper’s stocks thousands of products bearing quality brand-names, making the store the specialist destination for tradies and serious do-it-yourselfers.
Everything from hardware products to paint, plumbing fittings, and power tools and hand tools are available in-store.
Dipper’s Home Timber and Hardware’s unmatched level of service means the store is no stranger to industry awards.
The Moree store was named National Store of the Year at the Independent Hardware Group Awards of Excellence in Adelaide in 2024 – for the second time in a decade.
Dipper’s previously won the prestigious national title in 2014 as well as NSW Store of the Year in 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025.
Bec said the store strives for excellence in customer service, products range, knowledge, operational excellence and store standards.
“We will be vying for the NSW Store of the Year again in a few months’ time,” she said.
The iconic Moree store was also recently recognised by industry colleagues when named a finalist in the 2026 New South Wales and ACT Timber and Hardware Industry Awards, hosted by the National Timber and Hardware Association this month.
Bec and store manager Mark Baker will travel to Doltone House in Sydney, where Dipper’s Home Timber and Hardware is a finalist in the Retail Store of the Year under 2500 square metres category.
“The upcoming NTHA Awards in Sydney will be exciting,” Bec said.
“As this award is judged against all other independent hardware stores, not just Home Hardware Stores, it makes us proud to know we are part of it and were nominated by peers within the wider Hardware Industry.
“Let’s hope we can come through with the title,” she smiled.
