Cr Susannah Pearse and Cr Wayne Tighe have been re-elected unopposed as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Moree Plains Shire Council for another two years.
The elections were held during Council’s Ordinary Meeting on Thursday, September 17. Their new terms will run until September 2028.
Cr Pearse said she was grateful for the chance to continue as Mayor and pointed to several projects completed or progressed during the past two years.
“We have had some big things happen over the past two years. The hot pools are back open, the Moree Memorial Hall is back in use, we have signed off on the Special Activation Precinct Deed and we are continuing to bring Council’s debt down,” Cr Pearse said.
“We have also put a huge amount of work into flood recovery on our roads, with $54 million spent to date on recovery works across the Shire.”
Cr Pearse said there was still plenty of work ahead.
“There’s still a lot on the to-do list, from the 50m pool to the new pound, to roads, to better supporting our towns and villages. So, while I am proud of what we have achieved over the past two years, we are not putting down the tools just yet!” she said.
Deputy Mayor Tighe said he was pleased to continue working with Cr Pearse, the other councillors and the community.
“We have worked hard to get Council’s finances back on track and it is pleasing to see the work reflected in our accounts and through the auditors’ sign off,” Cr Tighe said.
“I am looking forward to continuing to work with the community, progressing the projects already underway and getting a couple of other exciting projects off the ground that we know the community is keen to see.”
