Mungindi residents will lose access to their local waste drop-off from Monday 12 October to Sunday 18 October 2026. Moree Plains Shire Council said it will close Mungindi Transfer Station completely, including access to skip bins.

Licensed contractors will undertake asbestos remediation works, the council said. Its notice, issued on 2 October 2026, described the measures as “safety and environmental works”.

In its 1 July 2026 notice, the council said the stockpile area was off limits following asbestos-related illegal dumping. During that restriction, skip bins remained available for general waste and recycling during standard operating hours.

The council will extend opening hours to give residents time to catch up after the shutdown. On Monday 19 October 2026, the station will open from 8:00am-11:00am. Tuesday 20 October 2026 will offer an afternoon window, from 2:30pm-5:00pm.
