Moree Caledonian Pipes and Drums has secured $20,000 for its Equipment Renewal Program in the latest Community Enhancement Fund round. The band said the grant would cover replacement drums and uniform upgrades. Moree Plains Shire Council announced the awards, totalling $30,379, on 13 October 2026.
Boomi Community Co-Operative will receive the remaining $10,379 for the Birds of Boomi amenities block mural. A donation from Moree Solar Farm makes the fund possible. It provides financial assistance for projects supporting community facilities, services and liveability across the shire.
Mayor Susannah Pearse said the two grants backed a longstanding community organisation and an arts project that would enhance Boomi. She said the fund continued to help strengthen the community. She said the council was proud to partner with Moree Solar Farm in awarding the money.
Pipe Major Tim Tesoriero said the support would enable the band to continue competing and representing Moree. The drums being replaced had reached the end of their usable life, the group said. Mr Tesoriero said the group was thankful to Moree Solar Farm and the council for their support.
The not-for-profit community pipe band teaches local children and adults to play bagpipes, snare drum and tenor drum. It offers free weekly lessons, giving residents a way to learn the instruments.
The band is now preparing for The Great Sydney Highland Fair and the NSW State Pipe Band Championships in Sydney. It said these would be its last competitive performances of the 2026 season. The group said it would also keep playing at local community events and hold its cherry drive later this year, ordering fruit from a family-run orchard.
The award helps Moree retain a presence on the competition circuit. Mayor Susannah Pearse said the Boomi project would contribute to the village’s identity.
