Moree Plains Shire Council is seeking up to three people with experience in aquatic centre management or construction to join the Taylor Oval pool steering committee. Nominations close at 5pm on Thursday 12 November.
The committee will bring community knowledge and industry experience into the project’s planning and development. Members will receive project briefings and give advice and recommendations to Council and the project team.
Council agreed to seek community representatives at its 15 October meeting, when it appointed Mayor Susannah Pearse as chair and Councillors Wayne Tighe, Kerry Cassells, Debra Williams and Brooke Sauer as members. It also invited five organisations to nominate one representative each: Moree Local Aboriginal Land Council, Moree Amateur Swimming Club, Moree Diggers Swimming Club, Tourism Moree Inc and the Moree & District Chamber of Commerce.
The committee will meet twice in its first two months, then every three months for the rest of the project. A report to Council’s November ordinary meeting is due to cover the nominations, proposed rules for the committee and updated arrangements for overseeing Stage 1.
The call for nominations comes as the NSW Minister for Local Government considers suspending the elected council and appointing an interim administrator. Council agreed on its response at an extraordinary meeting on 2 November, ahead of the 6 November submission deadline.
If a suspension proceeds, an administrator would take over the Mayor’s and councillors’ governing duties under section 438M of the Local Government Act 1993, including the council’s role in considering the nominations and making appointments. The committee’s chair and its four councillor members are already appointed; what a suspension would mean for those places is not settled, and would depend on any order and on the terms of reference still to come back to Council.
Applicants should outline their experience, skills and how they could contribute through the online expression of interest form at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/D7HKFZC. Applications close at 5pm on Thursday 12 November 2026. For enquiries, contact Council’s Executive Office on (02) 6757 3222.
