Glen Innes Severn Council welcomes confirmation of hospital upgrade funding

Jun 27, 2025

GLEN Innes Severn Council has welcomed the NSW Government’s confirmation of $50 million for the Glen Innes Hospital upgrade, as part of the 2025–26 NSW Budget announced earlier this week.

The funding was confirmed by Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan, who has secured approximately $252 million in additional investment for the electorate.

The Glen Innes Hospital upgrade is one of several major health projects continuing under this Budget.

Mayor Margot Davis said the announcement offers reassurance to the Glen Innes Severn community, which has been eager to see progress on the long-promised upgrade.

“I welcome the NSW Government’s confirmation of funding to complete the first stage of the hospital redevelopment, and we will continue to advocate for the additional funding needed to deliver the full master plan,” Cr Davis said.

“I would like to thank Mr Moylan for his continued advocacy. This is a critical project for our community, and we are keen to see construction commence as is our community.”

Mayor Davis said Council will continue to advocate for investment that strengthens local health services and supports the wellbeing of residents across the Glen Innes Severn community.

The $50 million investment in the Glen Innes Hospital redevelopment aims to deliver a modern hospital with new and refurbished facilities to meet the health needs of the community into the future.

Planning and design for the redevelopment is progressing, which will deliver a new hospital building including an expanded emergency department, medical imaging department, ambulance drop-off and bays, and mortuary.

The redevelopment will also provide a new main entry to the hospital from Ferguson Street to enhance access to health services for patients, carers and visitors, and includes a new driveway that will lead to a drop-off area outside the new hospital building.

Glen Innes Severn Council has welcomed the NSW Government’s confirmation of $50 million for the Glen Innes Hospital upgrade.

When the project is complete, the Macquarie Street entrance will be reserved for ambulance use, staff parking, deliveries and service vehicles.

Construction timeframes will be confirmed following statutory planning approvals and the appointment of a building contractor.

Minister for Regional Health, Ryan Park staff and community consultation has been considered in developing the latest design for the redevelopment, which will deliver new and refurbished health facilities to support the needs of Glen Innes and surrounding communities.

“I’m pleased to see the new hospital building will enhance access to vital health services for the community,” Mr Park said.
