A man is due in court today charged after drugs and weapons were seized during a vehicle stop at Armidale on Tuesday.
At about 9am yesterday, officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling the New England Highway when they stopped a ute for a random testing.
The driver – a 51-year-old man – was subjected to a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive reading to methylamphetamine.
Extra resources from New England Police District were called and the vehicle searched with officers seizing a substance alleged to be methylamphetamine as well as two knives and five firearms from the vehicle.
He was taken to Armidale Police Station where an oral fluid sample was obtained and sent for further analysis.
At about 3.15pm on the same day, police executed a search warrant at a home on Llangothlin Road, Guyra, where they seized another firearm with ammunition and drugs suspected to be methylamphetamine.
The man was charged with possess prohibited drug, custody of knife in public place (two counts), acquire etc pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order (two counts), and possess unregistered firearm (six counts).
He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 5 today.
In an unrelated incident, two men faced court following investigations into multiple incidents at Tamworth.
At about 8.30pm on Saturday, July 12, two men and a woman entered a taxi on Mills Street, Tamworth, and were dropped at Gunnedah Road, Tamworth and allegedly failed to pay for the fare.
At about 11.40pm, two men entered a service station on Goonoo Goonoo Road, Tamworth, where one man allegedly produced a knife demanding cash and cigarettes.
The attendant complied and the men left the area on foot.
In another incident, at about 7.10pm on Sunday, July 20, a man attended a service station on Armidale Road, Nemingha, and allegedly left with a bag of food, drink, and cigarettes without paying.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District were notified of the incidents and commenced an investigation.
Following inquiries, at about 11.45am yesterday, police were patrolling Peel Street, Tamworth, where they arrested a man known to them.
The 30-year-old man was taken to Tamworth Police Station.
He was charged with robbery in company, dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, and shoplifting value less than or equal to $2,000.
Five outstanding arrest warrants were also executed for traffic, and breach of bail related offences.
Following further inquiries, at about 12.40pm yesterday, police were patrolling Gunnedah Road, Tamworth, when they attempted to stop and talk with a man walking along the road.
The man failed to stop, and a foot pursuit commenced. He was arrested a short time later and taken to Tamworth Police Station.
Police also located two knives during a search of the man.
The 36-year-old man was charged with robbery in company, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and custody of knife in public place.
An outstanding arrest warrant was also executed for shoplifting, assault, and breach of bail offences.
The men were refused bail and appeared at Tamworth Local Court yesterday.
