Brooke Sauer: MPSC candidate

Aug 23, 2024

WHEN Brooke Sauer was elected to Moree Plains Shire Council in 2022, her campaign focused chiefly on results for ratepayers.

Mrs Sauer, who seeks re-election at the 2024 local government elections with running mate Susannah Pearse, has modelled her campaign along the same lines.

“Last term I stood for council on the simple platform of ‘results’, and if elected I will continue to work for results,” Mrs Sauer said.

“I will strive to see results for further-improved service levels, delivery of community assets like the pool and memorial hall, and better maintenance of infrastructure including roads, drainage and water services,” Mrs Sauer said.

“I want results that include an inclusive and cohesive community that embraces our legacy, our history and pursues a bright future, strong governance and greater transparency on the services provided, and progress that Council achieves.”

Mrs Sauer works in the Moree Plains vibrant agriculture sector, and is head of research and development at PURE Grain.

“I am in charge of a 435ha trial farm, investigating sustainable farming practices to meet our sustainability and net zero production targets,” Mrs Sauer said.

She was most recently the director of IntellectAg, a bespoke agtech consulting company, working with researchers and farmers to use technology to gain productivity efficiencies.

“I am seeking re-election to oversee our new executive management and ensure delivery of our Community Strategic Plan.

“I want to see a desirable and cohesive community, with a vibrant regional economy, and an environmentally stable shire with transformational leadership.”

Mrs Sauer lists progress of a new leadership team, progress on the Reconciliation Action Plan, Moree’s new  pool, the re-opening of a renovated and a fit-for-purpose memorial hall as priorities.

“Prioritisation of road maintenance and repair is also needed, including an increased budget for 2024-25, but there is still more to do,” Mrs Sauer said.

Mrs Sauer has more than 20 years’ experience in agriculture research, extension, consulting and, most notably, emerging technologies.

She is currently on the Floodplain Risk Management Committee, Road Network Consultative Group, Local Traffic Committee and Joint Regional Planning Panel (Northern).

Mrs Sauer is keen to continue her fight for results across the vast Moree Plains Shire.

“Change takes time, and I would welcome the chance to see more results for our community,” she said.
