Cricket Season Launch

Come-and-try cricket morning for juniors launches an afternoon of senior cricket for Rowdo

Oct 4, 2025

MOREE senior and junior cricket clubs launch their seasons the same day, with an innings overlap at Ron Harborne Oval next Saturday, October 11.

From 9am until 1pm, Moree Junior Cricket Club will conduct a come-and-try morning for aspiring young cricketers thinking about padding up for the season.

Later in the afternoon, Moree District Cricket Association will host Rowdo’s Day, starting at around 12.30pm with a barbecue lunch.

Cricketers young and old will be catered for as the 2025-2026 season gets into full swing.

The junior cricket come-and-try morning is a perfect opportunity for junior players to try a new sport. For returning players, it’s an ideal way to get back into the swing of things, in readiness for a big season ahead.

The morning is being organised and run by Cricket NSW, with representatives travelling to Moree specifically to host the event.

There will be fun, engaging activities, designed to give newcomers a taste of cricket and help existing players dust off their skills before the season officially starts.

Senior cricket club president Grady Sinclair said Rowdo’s Day honours former senior club president Chris Rowden, who sadly passed away in December, 2023.

“It’s a special day to remember Chris, and everything he did for senior cricket in Moree,” Sinclair said.

“Rowdo was big on involvement and having fun, and that’s what this day is all about.

“We’ll be on the barbecue from around 12.30pm and the whole community is invited to come along for an afternoon of fun cricket.

“We had a big turn-out last year with family and friends coming down and getting involved, and we would love to get that support again,” he said.

Games will start from around 1pm, with six teams registered to pad up.

“The competition will be round-robin style format, with a final at the end,” Sinclair said.

The senior cricket season will start the following Saturday, October 18.

“The comp will most likely run for eight rounds with a grand-final round on December 13,” Sinclair said.

The junior cricket season is scheduled to start on Sunday, October 19, with children encouraged to head to the October 11 come-and-try day for a great day of fun and cricket.

The junior cricket competition will rest during the Christmas school holidays and resume in Term 1 next year.

Senior cricket will have a short break over Christmas and New Year, and resume on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
