JUKES and Sons Tyre Service in Moree is expanding, and motorists who regularly drive past the company’s massive new shed on Alice Street as they go about their daily commute are noticing the changes – big changes.
The large block, a former service station site, now houses a new shed that will soon open as Jukes and Sons Tyre Service’s mechanical repairs and suspension upgrades arm of the business.
And Jukes’ principle, Graham Warner, says there is no better town than Moree to expand and invest with confidence.
Moree has always been known as one of the richest agricultural shires in Australia – if not the richest – and Graham says further investment in the town was a given.
“We’ve got 100 per cent faith in Moree. It’s a great town, and honestly anyone in business wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in Australia,” Graham said.
“There is no better town for business and investment. It’s second-to-none, and the recent wheat season is testament to that.
“The season this year was unbelievable for us. It wasn’t quite our best season, but it was close, and probably equal to last year,” he said.
“I really can’t see a better shire than Moree Plains for growth and investment – we’re in a very rich part of the country, especially from an agricultural viewpoint.
“I believe we’re the only town this size anywhere in Australia that has four agricultural machinery dealerships – that says a lot about the confidence people have in the district,” Graham said.
It’s this faith in the local economy that has prompted Jukes and Sons Tyre Service to expand services.
“We wanted to advance the mechanical side of the business,” Graham said.
“The tyre side is at full potential – it’s our core business – and the next step for us to grow further is to expand our mechanical and suspension upgrades division, hence the new shed,” he said.
“There are four hoists in the new shed and two more in the building next door and we’ll mainly focus on cars, four-wheel-drives and larger vehicles,” Graham said.
A new driveway off Dover Street gives trucks and B-doubles easier drive-through access to Jukes’ tyre repairs forecourt, where staff have been expertly changing tyres, providing major vulcanising repairs, and carrying out wheel alignment and balancing services since 1963.
The new shed, measuring 30 metres by 15 metres was supplied by local firm, Sheds ‘n’ Homes, and built by J&R Constructions.
An adjoining slab, giving a combined 2500 square metres, was poured by concreter Matt Townsend, with concrete supplied by McDonald Ready Mix Concrete & Earthmoving.
Electrician Damien Hook and plumber Luke Morrison were also contracted to undertake work on the project.
With a major expansion like this, comes the need for more staff, and Graham plans to employ two apprentices when the new shed is fully operational.
“We want to give young kids a start and put them through the apprenticeship system, and another two apprentices will join our current apprentice, Jessie Johnston,” Graham said.
Jukes currently has more than 20 full-time staff members, with mechanics Cody McInnes, Zac Maher, and Gursharan and Gurjeet Singh keen to move into the news shed.
“The shed is nearing the final stages of completion, and we’ll have plenty of staff on hand to fulfill all mechanical repairs expertly and efficiently,” Graham said.
