FORMER Melbourne Storm and South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL star Greg Inglis will be in Moree next week to deliver a series of engaging mental health programs as part of his ground-breaking Goanna Academy advocacy group.

Inglis will be in Moree for two days, after Moree Plains Shire Council’s Community Development Team successfully obtained an Alcohol and Drug Foundation grant to bring the Goanna Academy to Moree.

Inglis will join Elders at the Moree Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre next Tuesday for a special morning tea to celebrate culture, connection and community wisdom.

Later in the day, he’ll host a free adult mental health forum between 5.30pm to 7pm at Moree Services Club – an evening for the whole community to learn, connect and explore tools for better mental health.

The following day, Inglis will be at Boughton Oval and Moree PCYC as part of the Gold Mind and Movement Clinic, where up to 200 young people from across the Moree Plains will take part in a high-energy, high-impact program focused on health, wellbeing, resilience and mental fitness.

Inglis, 38, started his incredible career with the Bowraville Tigers. He went on to represent Queensland at State of Origin level and proudly wore the green and gold for Australia.

He signed with Melbourne Storm in 2005 and played 117 first grade matches, scoring 78 tries.

Inglis joined South Sydney in 2011 and three years later helped the Rabbitohs win their first NRL premiership in 43 years.

The Goanna Academy, founded by Inglis five years ago, is on a mission to open up honest conversations about mental health.

The academy’s aim is to help those in regional areas and First Nations communities feel supported, understood and empowered.

Built from Inglis’s own lived experience, the Academy is dedicated to inspiring hope, resilience and connection across the country.

Since launching in 2020, the Goanna Academy has been creating safe spaces for people to speak up, seek help and feel seen.

Inglis’s journey beyond the rugby league field has become a beacon for mental health advocacy, with his courage, honesty and commitment touching communities everywhere.

Inglis, originally from Kempsey and raised in Macksville, is not only one of Australia’s most celebrated rugby league players – he is a passionate mental health advocate.

Coming from a close-knit family and shaped by triumphs and challenges, Inglis knows firsthand the power of speaking out and leaning on loved ones. By sharing his own story, he hopes to spark healing and strength in others and remind people they are never alone.
