THE 2026 Moree Show is less than three months away, and the hardworking committee is back on deck putting everything together for two big days of incredible entertainment and show ring action.

The Moree Show, first held in 1874, is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, April 10-11 and will again offer something for everyone.

Moree Show secretary Karen Munn said the committee opted for an earlier date this year, with plenty of new attractions.

“Our usual date would have seen the Saturday of the Show – the second day – coincide with Anzac day, which would have made it impossible for us,” Karen said.

She said the 2026 format has plenty to offer.

“This year, we have Noah’s Racing Pigs and Jet Pack Entertainment as the main attractions and we’ll have a train that will travel around the showground over both days as well.

“There will also be a snake display and an on-stage and roving clown for the kids as well,” she said.

The Moree Show has been an annual event for more than 150 years, and promotes agriculture and showcases the talents of local people who display exhibits and compete in events.

This year’s roster features a newly-formatted, Friday night rodeo, as well as ring events including the farmers’ challenge, demolition derby and ute barrel racing.

“We had to cancel the rodeo last year as we only received seven entries. This year we’ll hold a junior-novice rodeo in line with other Shows in the region,” Karen said.

“We are hoping to attract more entries with better prizemoney and Moree Show belt buckles for the winners of the novice saddle-bronc and the novice bull ride.”

Karen said many of the show’s regular ring events will be back for 2026.

“Our usual events are planned for the ring on Saturday, including the demolition derby, which will definitely go ahead, thanks to our strict adherence to the rules for insurance purposes,” she said.

“The ute barrel races, farmers’ challenge and tug-of-war are always popular, too.”

Karen also encourages everyone to start thinking about submitting entries to this year’s pavilion sections.

Kids are urged to get cracking and creative for the junior handicrafts section, with the current school holidays the perfect time to develop ideas and work on projects.

There is also junior art and junior cooking sections, with all junior categories divided into two age groups – 12 years and under, and children aged 13 years to 18 years.

For adults, there are several categories to enter, including cooking, preserves, needlework, applied arts, fine arts, photography, horticulture and garden produce.

There is also a group competition exhibition, with the theme, A Child’s World.

A group exhibit consists of a variety of articles that are handcrafted using mediums such sewing, knitting, crocheting, patchwork, painting, embroidery, woodwork, macramé or pottery.

This year, items in the exhibit could be something a child aged anywhere from toddler age to 18 years might wear, use, like or play with.
