NSW SES launches Adapt 2030 strategy

Feb 9, 2026

THE NSW State Emergency Service has launched Adapt 2030, a new five-year strategy designed to strengthen how the service works with communities, volunteers and partners in an increasingly complex emergency environment.

Every day, NSW SES members work to save lives and create safer communities.

With numerous factors, including population growth, evolving technology and changing patterns of volunteerism reshaping risk across NSW, Adapt 2030 sets a clear direction for how the organisation will continue to evolve to meet future challenges.

The strategy builds on the strong results delivered under the current NSW SES strategic plan, which has driven growth in volunteer numbers, expanded flood rescue capability, improved warning delivery times and strengthened community preparedness, showing that long-term strategic investment leads to real-world impact.

NSW SES Commissioner Mike Wassing said the strategy reflects the voices of members and strengthens the organisation’s ability to deliver when it matters most.

“Adapt 2030 positions the NSW SES to remain agile, capable and connected as community needs continue to evolve,” Commissioner Wassing said.

“Our previous strategy delivered strong results, and we are confident Adapt 2030 will build on that momentum to deliver even greater outcomes with and for our communities.”

Adapt 2030 was developed through extensive consultation with members, partners and stakeholders, and informed by feedback from NSW SES volunteers and staff, alongside analysis of global trends and research into the risks and challenges faced by NSW communities.

The new strategy is built around five strategic goals focused on strengthening collaboration with communities and partners, enhancing and adapting service delivery, creating more opportunities for flexible volunteering and community involvement, promoting a culture of safety and trust and simplifying how the organisation works through smarter systems and processes.
