MOREE’S Rising Sun Film Society has dusted off the projector and unfurled the big screen in readiness for a full program of feature films in 2026.

Movies are shown on the third Sunday of each month, starting March 15, at Moree RSL War Memorial Museum on the corner of Albert and Balo Streets.

Doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start, with light refreshments available afterwards.

This year’s offerings are diverse and from all corners of the globe, and includes two documentary-style features.

The cost is just $15 per person.

March 15: The Miracle Club (1hr 36m) UK (M)

Follows the story of three generations of close friends, Lily, Eileen and Dolly who have one tantalising dream: to win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes. When the chance to win presents itself, the women seize the opportunity. However, just before the trip, their old friend Chrissie arrives for her mother’s funeral, dampening their good mood and well-laid plans.

April 19: The Taste of Things (2hs 15m) France (M)

Eugénie works for Dodin, creating incredible dishes together. While they are lovers, Eugénie prefers their professional partnership over marriage, leading Dodin to start cooking for her to win her over completely.

May 17: The Salt Path (1hr 55m) UK (M)

Follows the true story of Raynor and her husband Moth, who invested in a friend’s business without realising that when the business failed, they would be liable for its debts. The “friend” and his creditors pursued them through the courts for their principal asset – the smallholder farm they had owned, renovated and farmed for more than 30 years.

June 21: The Wolves Always Come at Night (1hr 36m) Mongolian docu-drama (M)

Davaa and Zaya, a Mongolian nomadic couple forced to abandon their traditional life after a devastating storm, aggravated by climate change, destroys their livelihood.

The family struggles to adjust to urban life in Ulaanbaatar, haunted by the loss of their heritage and land. Set in Mongolia.

July 19: Emu Runner (1hr 35m) AUS (M)

The story is seen through the eyes of Gem, a spirited eight-year-old girl, who deals with the grief of her mother’s death by forging a bond with a wild emu, a mythical bird of her ancestors. This spiritual dreaming is a bond she will do anything to keep, but one that puts her at odds with the new social worker.

August 16: The Stolen Painting (1hr 31m) France (PG)

Draws its story from the real-life discovery of a lost impressionist masterpiece in a modest home in regional France. When Karl’s country was annexed by the Nazis, he fled to France and took with him 50 works. Karl moved to Paris but stored his collection in Strasbourg, where they were subsequently seized by the Nazis, and then sold off at auction.

September 20: The Last Journey (1hr 35m) Swedish documentary-road trip (PG)

Filip tries to cheer up his father, who is stuck at home in an armchair during his retirement, by making the same drive to France that the family used to take when Filip was a child. For his help, Filip takes his best friend Fredrik, some serious doses of optimism, and an old, orange Renault 4.

October 18: Fireflies in the Garden (1hr 40m) US (M)

Focusing on the dysfunctional Taylor family, where a tragic car accident on the day of a matriarch’s college graduation brings long-buried secrets and resentment to light. The film, starring Ryan Reynolds, Julia Roberts, and Willem Dafoe, alternates between present-day grief and past. Intense, emotional abuse inflicted by a controlling father.

November 15: Puzzle (1hr 43m) US (M)

Agnes, taken for granted as a suburban mother, discovers a passion for solving jigsaw puzzles which unexpectedly draws her into a new world, where her life unfolds in ways she could never have imagined.
