REPAIR works are underway this week for a small section along the Goondiwindi Riverwalk.
The project includes removing old, disused boardwalk sections between the riverwalk and the Bowls Club building, as well as replacing the ageing timber retaining wall in the same area.
Goondiwindi Regional Councillor Jason Watts said the works form part of Council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving community infrastructure.
“Maintaining our recreational spaces is essential to establish that they remain safe, functional, and accessible for the community,” Cr Watts said.
“This project was identified in consultation with the Goondiwindi Bowls Club.

Repairs are underway this week for a small section along the Goondiwindi Riverwalk.
“The riverwalk is a highly valued space for both residents and visitors, and these improvements will support its long-term durability and usability.
“These works are independent of the major levee bank project and were prioritised to maintain the continued safety and structural integrity of the riverwalk,” Cr Watts stated.
As part of the project, the disused boardwalk will be removed and not replaced, as it is no longer required.
The existing timber retaining wall will be replaced with a block retaining wall to improve durability and provide ongoing structural support for the riverwalk and levee.
Council is funding the works, which will be completed by Council’s concrete crew this week.
During construction, temporary interruptions to pedestrian access may occur along sections of the riverwalk and detours will be in place.
Council thanks the community for its patience and understanding while these important improvements are carried out.
