NARRABRI Shire councillor Amanda Brown has formally tendered her resignation from Council due to health reasons.
This was Cr Brown’s first term serving as an elected representative. While she had hoped to continue contributing to the community in this capacity, she has made the decision to step down in order to prioritise her health and family.
Cr Brown said the decision had not been made lightly.
“Whilst it saddens me to have to resign, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on Council representing the Narrabri Shire community,” Cr Brown said.
“My cancer diagnosis means a long journey ahead and I feel I would not be able to give 100 per cent to the role as councillor.
“I thank all councillors, staff and community members for their support and wish the incoming elected representative all the best.”
Narrabri Shire mayor Darrell Tiemens acknowledged Cr Brown’s service and contribution to the Shire.
“Cr Brown has demonstrated genuine commitment to our community throughout her time on Council,” Cr Tiemens said.
“She has approached the role with dedication and care, and her contribution to Council discussions and decision-making has been valued by her fellow councillors and staff alike.
“On behalf of Council, I thank Amanda for her service and wish her and her family all the very best.”

Narrabri Shire councillor Amanda Brown has formally tendered her resignation from Council due to health reasons.
Under the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW), a casual vacancy may be filled by a countback from the results of the last ordinary election if it is within the first 18 months following an ordinary election and if Council resolved at its first meeting following the election to use a countback method to fill such vacancies.
Councillor Brown’s resignation meets both criteria.
As such, Council has informed the New South Wales Electoral Commission, which will appoint a returning officer to undertake the countback process.
Once the countback has been completed, the Commission and Council will announce the newly appointed councillor to the community.
