NSW Seniors’ Festival launches today in Moree, with morning tea and bingo at Pius X community hall.

The statewide festival, now in its 68th year, is a much-loved, annual event and celebrates the role and contributions of older adults in the community.

With this year’s theme, Live Life in Colour, the Seniors’ Festival draws tens of thousands of participants to events and activities across New South Wales.

In Moree, the festival opens with bingo and morning tea today at Pius X at 10.30am, with vouchers, petrol cards, meat packs and fruit and vegetable trays up for grabs.

Throughout the week, lawn bowls, bingo, movies, entertainment and plenty of food will be on the menu at several venues around town.

On Tuesday, Morning tea at Moree Community Library at 10.30am features a screening of The Thursday Murder Club, starring Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie and Ben Kingsley.

The principal Seniors’ Festival event be held at Moree Services Club on Wednesday from 10.15am, when a catered meal, entertainment and the announcement of the 2026 Moree Plains Shire Council Senior Citizen of the Year will be made.

Timeless entertainer Keith Potger will celebrate nearly 65 years of The Seekers with a nostalgic, heart‑warming tribute show.

Lawn bowls will get underway at Moree Services Club at 6pm on Thursday, and the following day, Moree Care will host bingo and lunch from 10am.

The Seniors’ Festival in Moree closes with a barbecue lunch at 363 Gwydirfield Road on Saturday, starting at 11am.

Moree Ukulele Group will again entertain at a huge lunch on the last day of the Seniors’ Festival.

Events co-ordinator Lorraine Bartel said there will be plenty to do and see this week in Moree.

“The Seniors’ Festival is a great chance to catch up with friends and have a good time,” she said.

Mrs Bartel said Seniors’ Week in Moree would not be possible without generous donations from Pius X, Moree Community Library, Moree and District Services Club, Moree Services Bowling Club, Moree Care, Moree Lions Club, Moree Plains Shire Council, Regional Australia Bank and Moree Ukulele Group.

“All these people donate premises, their time and money to ensure the seniors can enjoy a great week with their friends,” Mrs Bartel said.

Minister for Seniors Jodie Harrison said the NSW Seniors Festival is always a special time for older people across New South Wales.

“It is a time for them to know they are valued, have fun and celebrate their contribution to community,” Ms Harrison said.

“Each year, Councils and local organisations put their best foot forward to deliver diverse and enriching events during the NSW Seniors Festival.

“As part of the festival there are almost 50 NSW Government run and sponsored events happening across the state designed specifically for our older community members.

“On top of this, there are dozens more events organised by councils and other organisations, ranging across sports, culture, nature and food, so there is plenty on offer for everyone.

“The NSW Government is proud to support community efforts to make these events a success.”
