Moree: Two teenaged boys charged after alleged aggravated break-in

TWO teenaged boys will face court charged after an alleged aggravated break-and-enter in Moree.

At about 2.45am today, Sunday, March 15, officers attached to New England Police District were called to Jones Avenue, Moree, after reports of a break-and-enter.

Police were told the occupant – a 61-year-old woman – was awoken to loud banging on the front door before two unknown individuals confronted her inside the home allegedly demanding the keys to her car.

The two individuals took the keys to a Land Rover before reversing the vehicle into another car parked in the driveway.

They then allegedly struck the front fence of the property, causing further damage, before driving west along Jones Street.

At about 2.55am the vehicle was sighted at the intersection of Blueberry Road and the Newell Highway, Moree.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when it allegedly failed to comply a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

At about 6.30am, police sighted two individuals allegedly attempting to gain entry into a home on Boston Street, Moree.

Upon sighting police the two allegedly ran from the scene before they were arrested in the rear yard of a home on Chester Street, Moree.

They were taken to Moree Police Station where the older boy was charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence; destroy or damage property; face blackened-disguised with intent commit indictable offence; take and drive conveyance without consent of owner; and police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly.

The younger boy was charged with armed with intent commit indictable offence; aggravated break-and-enter commit serious indictable offence; face blackened-disguised with intent commit indictable offence; and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

They were refused bail and will appear before a children’s court today.
