GOONDIWINDI Regional Council, in partnership with planning specialists Ross Planning, is calling on the community to share ideas and feedback to help shape the new Goondiwindi Sporting Facilities Strategic Plan.

The long-term strategy will guide Council’s future investment in sporting infrastructure across Goondiwindi.

The operational and maintenance costs continue to rise for Council, along with a rising number of requests for upgrades.

Reflecting on Council’s commitment to sustainable, evidence-based planning, the Plan will guide future decisions, so facilities continue to meet current needs and manageable operational costs while delivering value for future generations.

Cr Kym Skinner, Council’s portfolio holder for Lifestyle, Sport and Education, said the Strategic Plan will help co-ordinate investment, prioritise projects and strengthen applications for external funding by demonstrating community need and readiness.

“Sport brings people together and strengthens the fabric of our community,” Cr Skinner said.

“This Plan gives us the chance to take a long-term view, focus on sustainability, affordability and make sure our facilities continue to support players, volunteers, families and spectators for many years to come.”

While master plans already exist for the major sporting complexes in Inglewood and Texas, the focus now is on Goondiwindi facilities, which are used by a wide range of local sporting clubs, community groups and residents.

“We want to hear from the people who use these facilities every week, our players, volunteers, families and supporters, because their feedback will help guide the future of sport in Goondiwindi,” Cr Skinner said.

“Ross Planning will be in Goondiwindi later this month, and we encourage anyone with an interest in local sport and recreation to drop in and share their ideas.”

Residents are encouraged to complete a short online survey to help Council better understand what people value about Goondiwindi’s sporting facilities, what could be improved and what opportunities may exist for the future.

The community survey will remain open until the close of business on April 10, 2026.

A community drop-in session will be held at the Family History Room, 100 Marshall Street (in the Goondiwindi Civic Centre) on Tuesday, March 24, from 2pm to 3.30 pm, where residents can meet with Ross Planning staff, ask questions, and provide feedback in person.
