Anzac Day 2026

Bush towns and villages prepare for Anzac Day, with Bellata CWA raising the bar

Apr 24, 2026

BUSH community halls throughout regional and rural Australia will commemorate Anzac Day tomorrow, with services planned across the Moree plains and neighbouring villages.

At the Bellata Memorial Hall, members of the local branch of the Country Women’s Association have gone above and beyond to observe Anzac Day, with an incredible display featuring uniforms, slouch hats, medals, riding gear and saddles.

Bellata CWA branch secretary Sandi Cullen said many people kindly supplied items for the hall display.

“Rhonda McPherson loaned her father’s World War 2 jacket and kit bag, and the belts belonged to Warrant Officer Geoff Weber, who served in World War 2,” Sandi said.

“Grant Brazier loaned his gear shirt, trousers, hat spade and medals, and Matthew Kibby loaned his hat.

“The Cullen family supplied the saddle, although it’s not a war saddle. The Hutchinson family loaned the pith Helmet and lead-tipped swat from African conflicts,” she said.

Sandi said the Bellata CWA already has plans in place for Anzac Day next year.

“We’re hoping more people will come forward with their memorabilia next year to stir up feelings for the pride we have in our fellow Aussies,” Sandi said.

The Anzac Day march from Bellata Public School to the hall will commence at 10.30am, with a wreath-laying ceremony at 10.50am.

An Anzac Day service will be observed in the Bellata Memorial Hall at 11am, with morning tea afterwards. Families are encouraged to bring a small plate to share.

Afterwards, the Bellata hall committee will hold a fundraiser at the Bellata Golf Club from 1pm.

In the Moree shire, a dawn service at Mungindi will commence at 5.45am at the RSL cenotaph, with a march and service from 10.30am.

A service at Pallamallawa Memorial Hall will commence at 5.30am followed by a sausage sizzle, tea and coffee, and a slideshow reflecting the last 10 years of the Pallamallawa War Memorial Hall.

At Boomi, the march will commence at 10.45am from the old Post Office with a service afterwards at Boomi Memorial Hall. Lunch will be provided from midday at the Pioneer Hotel.

A 6am dawn service will be held at the Toomelah War Memorial, Toomelah, and the Garah march will start at 9.30am at the Country Women’s Association Hall, with wreath-laying at the Garah Public Hall.

Morning tea will be provided at the Garah Country Women’s Association Hall from 10am.

In Moree, a 6am dawn service, convened by Moree RSL Sub-Branch, will be held at the Moree Services Club Memorial Window.

Breakfast will be provided by the club from 7am in the barbecue area for dawn service participants as well as lunch from midday for veterans, dignitaries and invited guests.

There will be raffles and two-up at Moree Services Club during the day, starting after all Anzac Day events and ceremonies.

At 9.30am, the Anzac parade will marshal in Balo Street, opposite Woolworths, with a salute taking place in front of the Moree RSL Sub-Branch Military Museum.

The parade will then march to Moree War Memorial Hall for the wreath-laying ceremony, with the service scheduled to start at 10am.

The newly refurbished Moree War Memorial Hall will be reopened during Anzac Day proceedings.

With Anzac Day falling on a Saturday this year, a public holiday will be observed on April 25, with an additional public holiday gazetted for New South Wales residents on Monday, April 27.
