Moree and Mungindi finalists in the 2026 NSW Top Tourism Town Awards

May 8, 2026

THE Moree Plains region is celebrating a major tourism milestone, with Moree and Mungindi announced as finalists in the 2026 NSW Top Tourism Town Awards.

Moree is a finalist in the Top Tourism Town category, while Mungindi has been named a finalist in the Tiny Tourism Town category.

The awards recognise communities that deliver exceptional visitor experiences and showcase the best of regional New South Wales.

Tourism Moree CEO Julie Rushby said the announcement was wonderful recognition for the region and the many businesses, volunteers, community groups and locals who contribute to creating memorable visitor experiences.

“To have both Moree and Mungindi recognised as finalists is something our entire community should be proud of,” Ms Rushby said.

“These awards celebrate the people, stories, experiences and sense of community that make regional destinations special, and this recognition reflects the passion and effort that goes into welcoming visitors across our region.”

The NSW Top Tourism Town Awards recognise towns that demonstrate a strong commitment to tourism, visitor experience, collaboration and community pride.

The awards process also included public voting, which saw strong support from locals and visitors.

Ms Rushby said the submissions formed part of a broader focus on continuous improvement and strengthening the visitor economy across the Moree Plains.

“The process itself has been incredibly valuable,” Ms Rushby said.

“It’s given us an opportunity to reflect on what we do well, identify opportunities for growth and continue building a stronger tourism future for the region.”

Winners of the 2026 NSW Top Tourism Town Awards will be announced on May 27 during the

LGNSW Destination and Visitor Economy Conference in Maitland.

Tourism Moree thanked everyone who supported the campaign, shared the voting links and continues to champion the Moree Plains as a destination.
