May 11, 2026

MOREE rugby star Lucy Grant has been selected for the Central North under-18s girls’ rugby union team following solid performances at trials held across two weekends.

The selection process included fitness drills, team runs and match-play scenarios, with players from across the region competing for a place in the representative side.

Since being selected, the squad has committed to an intensive training schedule, travelling to Tamworth and Barraba for weekly Sunday training sessions, as well as a team bonding weekend camp at Lake Keepit.

The team will play a trial match in Coonabarabran on May 24, ahead of the NSW State Championships, hosted by West Harbour, at St Luke’s, Concord, across the June 6-7-8 long weekend.

The Central North Under-18s girls’ team is a ruling force in New South Wales country rugby, winning the past two NSW Country Championships.

Lucy Grant has been selected for the Central North under-18s girls’ rugby union team.

Representing the Central North Junior Rugby Union zone, the team feeds into NSW Country and State representative pathways.

Lucy joins fellow Moree player Haylie Turner in the Central North squad, with the pair proudly representing both their hometown and the Moree Weebolla Bulls club at representative level.

The girls also recently represented the North West PSSA rugby league squad, competing in Coonabarabran last month.

“I feel incredibly proud to be part of the Central North side and I’m really grateful for the support and dedication shown by the coaching staff throughout the representative campaign,” Lucy said.

“I’ve loved every minute of it so far and our coaches Jessie and Jo have been so supportive and committed to helping us improve as both players and a team.”

Lucy is currently playing with the Moree Weebolla Bulls women’s team, whose coaches and players have continued to help build her skills, confidence and understanding of the game throughout the season.

“I’m really lucky to have such great support from the Weebolla Bulls girls and coach, as well as my dad, who coaches the club’s first-grade side. He’s definitely tough on me at times, but it’s helped push me to improve my game and confidence,” Lucy said.
